When negotiating your salary, think about your competence and strengths in advance. Check the amount of study points you have, it may have influence on the amount of pay you will get. Count together the time you have worked with similar tasks. Your final salary will be affected by your previous work experience and additional studies, which will have improved your knowledge and competence.
TEK gives out yearly salary recommendations for students and graduates. The recommendations are based on previous year’s actual salaries and the Ministry of Finance’s forecast of the future development of economic trends and general salary level.
If you are a master’s thesis worker and have also other tasks, these should have an increasing effect on your salary.
Starter salary recommendation
The recommended starter salary is applicable in the private sector and for expert tasks with a weekly working period of 37.5 hours. For more demanding jobs in certain fields, for those who work longer hours, for those who have a lot of work experience, as well as for those who work in the Helsinki region the starter salaries may be higher than the recommendation.
